In my pursuit to keep myself fit and healthy I have been indulging in various activities right from my childhood, like cricket, karate, badminton, jogging, squash, gym etc
When I was playing squash at Eden club I suddenly came up with this crazy thought to commute to the club by cycle so the 1st one for this purpose was an MTB Hercules fixie, I was riding to my gym also on that cycle just to get warm up before the workout, once it so happened that the gym was closed and I went for a long ride to compensate the workout which I had missed. That was the game changer, then onwards alternate day I was going to gym and long rides. Eventually I gave up my 6 months pending gym membership and took to cycling, for about a year my routine was riding from casagrande to Kottara chowki to Kadri Park via the highway, one hour pranayam at the park and then ride back home via Shiv Bagh, kankanady, valencia and Attavar, this loop was around 18km.
Then I happened to join two major cycling clubs, one of them being MbC, then started the daily ritual of long distances, in this process I completed an expedition of my dream destination Leh Ladhak, then came mangalore to bangalore, then Agumbe kundadri, then 2 brevet rides, 50-100 km became a normal thing.
Then came the grand thought of contributing to the society, I started commuting to office and back on my echo bike (cycle) with 2 major objectives in my mind
1) limit my carbon footprint in the eco system
2) to beat the traffic congestion and prove others that commuting is possible.
MbC has given a concrete platform to this city for enthusiasts to test their skills. It’s so nice to see young boys and girls taking to this activity instead of sitting online and live a sedentary lifestyle.
I can very well conclude that cycling is the best activity to satiate your hunger for good health, fulfilling social responsibility, thrill and adventure.
